Why I granted interview on foreign students bringing family into UK – Emdee Tiamiyu

Emdee Tiamiyu, a Nigerian YouTuber who claimed in a BBC interview that Nigerian students don’t go to the UK for degrees but rather for better jobs, has finally explained why he made the claim.

After British Home Secretary Suella Braverman said in a statement on Tuesday that Nigerians and other international students will no longer be allowed to bring dependents into the UK starting in January 2024, the youtuber came under intense fire on social media.

Shortly after the UK forbade international students from bringing in dependents, a clip of the interview went viral.

The YouTuber received criticism, with many denouncing his claim.

Tiamiyu claimed he made the claim because he was being “real” while speaking with well-known Nigerian media personality Daddy Freeze through Instagram Live Session.

I do know I would have to strike a balance between being genuine and being diplomatic, he admitted. Offending others is a necessary part of being honest. People haven’t cursed you since you brought up their reasons for emigrating abroad.

The youtuber’s words themselves are not the issue, according to Daddy Freeze, but rather the context in which he stated them.
