The Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogumodede has been fined N250,000 by the Naija Super 8 competition organizers for unacceptable behavior during the final game on Sunday at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
Following a 1-1 tie after regulation, Remo Stars fell to Sporting Lagos in the championship game via a penalty shootout.
In a statement, the tournament’s organizers, Flykite Productions, said that Ogumodede’s decision to send his players off the field in protest of an official decision led to the fine.
The players, however, disobeyed the directive and chose to finish the game, which they ultimately lost 2-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
The behavior of Mr. Daniel Ogumodede, head coach of Remo Stars, in ordering his players to leave the field of play in protest over an official’s judgment in the Naija Super 8 final match, was deemed unacceptable by Flykite Productions.
“A continent-wide audience watching on television watched his behavior, which incensed several senior football authorities present.
“Mr. Ogumodede’s team acknowledged receiving the document, which also lays out penalties for officials found guilty of misconduct by the Naija Super 8 Technical Advisory.
From July 7 to July 16, Naija Super 8 was staged, with the final game drawing a record-breaking crowd in Lagos.
