Mendy returns to football, signs for FC Lorient

By agreeing to a contract with FC Lorient of French Ligue 1, Benjamin Mendy has made his comeback to football.

On Wednesday, market transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano shared the news on his verified Twitter account.

Days after the jury at Chester Crown Court in the UK exonerated Mendy of charges of rape and attempted rape, a settlement was reached.

Mendy has a contract with Lorient that runs through June 2025, according to Romano.

“Benjamin Mendy makes his return to football by signing as a new Ligue 1 player for Lorient, done deal,” he said.

Mendy agrees to a contract that will last until June 2025 as the new Lorient left back following his Chester Crown Court acquittal.

Following his rape case, Mendy played his final match for English Premier League team Manchester City in August 2021.

However, once his contract with Manchester City expired at the end of June, the French international full-back was left free but without a club.
