Bode George, a former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has denied claims that he would cooperate with President Bola Tinubu’s team if approached.
Bode insisted that “if Tinubu calls him, he will pray for Nigeria” and insisted that he had never stated it and would never do so.
The PDP leader asserted that individuals who accused him of making such a remark were being prankish.
During a question-and-answer session on Monday’s Morning Show of Arise Television, the wise man provided the clarification.
Recently, it was widely reported that the elder statesman, in defiance of a promise he made during the previous presidential election to leave Nigeria if Tinubu won, vowed to cooperate with Tinubu’s administration if requested to contribute his quota.
Bode George, however, asserted that although he would not insult Tinubu, he was not searching for employment. He claimed that some people had convinced him to pay a celebratory visit to Tinubu.
“You are aware that members of your profession occasionally engage in mischief. Bode George revealed to a reporter that the person who published it in the Leadership Newspaper was not present at the press conference.
They questioned me about what I would do if Tinubu called, and I replied that I would pray for Nigeria if he did.
Listen, I am not in any way a flip-flopper by trade. Why would he call me if I had resigned from the military as a general?
“We don’t share the same political party. In the event that all court cases are concluded while we are still in court, he may say, “Chief, good morning,” and I will respond, “Mr. President.”
Even Papa Olusi tried to get me to go and congratulate him, but I refused and said, “No, I can’t do that.
“What calculations would they be making? I’ve already said that I have no personal objections to this.
“Why would I look for any job at all? Some of these folks don their thinking caps and start making up stories about me, but at least I won’t disrespect him by giving him the impression that I’m seeking for work right now. I’ve never stated it before, and I never will. I have no interest in working. I can’t disrespect him if he calls. That is something I have never said and will never say.
