Gbenga Daniel mourns death of FCMB founder Subomi Balogun

Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State, has expressed shock and sorrow at the passing of Otunba Subomi Balogun, a business tycoon and the creator of First City Monument Bank, FCMB.

Balogun, 89, is said to have passed away in a hospital in London after being admitted there for care.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST, Daniel praised the late Balogun as someone who “brought the fear of God into everything that he did and believed in.” Balogun was, until his passing, the Olori Omoba Otunba Tunwase of Ijebuland and Asiwaju of Ijebu Christians.

Additionally, he pledged that he “united the body of Christ while promoting interfaith relationships in the entire Ijebuland to the best of his ability.”

Daniel, the incoming senator from Ogun East, claimed that he and Otunba Balogun had a lot in common. Otunba Balogun served as Daniel’s father figure and a supporter of his administration while Daniel was governor of Ogun State.

He said that “Nigeria has indeed lost one of its illustrious sons” and added, “He was a man whom I have the greatest respect for, both in royalty and in the business world.”
