Establish ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs — Oluwo urges Tinubu

It has been requested that President Bola Tinubu take into account creating the Federal Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs.

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, issued this call in a statement that was obtained by DAILY POST on Thursday in Osogbo.

The role of traditional rulers in a democratic context is sacred, according to Oba Akanbi, who stated in the statement that the inclusion of traditional rulers in government through a distinct ministry and constitutional empowerment will address numerous concerns, particularly insecurity.

The Osun monarch noted that the one-off act and the role played by the appointed monarchs contributed in no small way to the success of the administration while urging the federal government to withdraw from the government of the old Western Region when Western House of Chiefs was created with First class monarchs serving as Ministers without portfolio.

“I want to propose that a king be appointed as the ministry’s Minister. I further suggest that the six geopolitical regions of the nation be represented equally in the appointment.

“The traditional institution is a crucial component of the executive branch and is closest to the people. The traditional kings and queens make it their life’s work to serve their people. We are essential in protecting our individual domains and promoting peaceful coexistence.

The establishment of the ministry, according to Oba Akanbi, “will give the traditional institution a constitutional role, empower it, endear monarchs to democratic participation, reassure belongingness, strengthen grassroots mobilization and participation with all inclusive dividends of democracy.”
