Enugu Governor, Mbah names Chidiebere Onyia SSG

Professor Chidiebere Onyia has been chosen as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) by Dr. Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State.

The Governor personally signed a statement on Monday that was made public by his media office and announced the appointment.

Prof. Onyia previously served as the United Kingdom Nigeria Infrastructure Facility’s Managing Director.

He has over the years provided services to several international organizations and nations, including the United Nations, Germany, and Russia. He was also the lead strategy advisor for the Federal Government of Nigeria’s World Bank Group Power Sector Recovery Programme.

In addition to serving on the Governing Council of two private universities in Nigeria, Prof. Onyia is a visiting professor of education at Godfrey Okoye University in Enugu and a former visiting professor at the University of Nigeria in Nsukka.

His educational credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction, a Master of Business Administration, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership.

Additionally, he received a post-doctoral scholarship in education policy from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, an Ivy League institution.

With more than 25 years of leadership, innovation, strategy, institutional reform, and research experience, Prof. Onyia has won numerous international and national awards and recognition for his excellent leadership abilities as well as his great contributions to the field of education. He has a significant body of work, is a licensed educational consultant, author of numerous books, researcher, presenter, and mentor.

The Transition body, a technical body that created a workable plan for the Peter Mbah administration based on his manifesto and social contract with the people of Enugu State, including Prof. Onyia as a member.
