Don urges Gov Otu to refurbish dilapidated state library in Cross River Published on June 8, 2023 By Asare Asare

Dr. Joseph Odok, a university lecturer, has urged Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu to renovate the outdated state library in the middle of the city.

The University of Calabar lecturer said in a statement released early on Thursday that so far, the people are proud of Otu’s early actions to restore hope in governance, as well as his conduct and extensive consultation to bring in the best people to work with him.

“While I appreciate your focus and vision, I want to burden you even more by pleading with you to give the Cross River State Library a facelift because it has grown to be an eyesore and a source of shame.

“This is more so to improve the reading culture and the quality of education in the State,” he remarked.

He claimed that while it is well known that he inherited significant debt and a lack of resources, focus must also be given to the condition of the educational infrastructure.

Despite public uproar and requests for library resources from students and professors, Prof. Ben Ayade’s administration received criticism for neglecting the renowned structure and allowing it to deteriorate.
