Champions League: Prepare for worst – Martinelli tells Arsenal teammates

Prior to their return to the UEFA Champions League this season, Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli has warned his colleagues to ‘prepare for the worst’.

Last season, Arsenal placed second in the English Premier League (EPL) standings, just behind league champion Manchester City.

Thus, Mikel Arteta’s team finally played in the Champions League after a seven-year absence.

The Gunners last participated in the Champions League during the 2016–2017 season. They have never won the competition.

According to Martinelli, who was quoted by The Mirror, “I think we [Arsenal players] need to prepare ourselves for the worst, we need to prepare ourselves for the best teams, and the whole team is doing that.”

“I believe we are prepared for a fresh challenge… Our squad’s depth is crucial since the season has too many games left to play and things will get difficult once more.

We are prepared to travel, and having so many options is a wonderful thing.

On Saturday night at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Arsenal will play Man United in a club preseason friendly.

On Thursday, July 27, 2023, the North London club will then play Barcelona.
