Again, 3 police officers killed, one injured in Ebonyi

On Wednesday, unidentified gunmen attacked the Oshiri Divisional Command in the Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, killing three police officers and injuring one.

The Union Bank roundabout in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, was the scene of an attack on Monday night by armed thugs that resulted in the death of one police inspector, whose identity has not yet been released, and the injury of two others.

In the state, thugs have already slain four police officers during the past two days, and three additional cops sustained critical injuries.

The spokesperson for the Ebonyi State Police Command, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, signed a statement and provided it to newsmen in Abakaliki, in which Commissioner of Police Faleye Olayele acknowledged the incident.

The claim reads: “Armed hoodlums attacked operations of the command on stop and search duty at Oshiri Division. Sadly, three police officers were killed; one was hurt and is now seeking medical attention.

“Tactical teams were dispatched right away to the area to hunt down the criminals. As a result, two of the thugs were killed while others fled with gunshot wounds.

A Lexus ES-350 model, a fake AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine with seven rounds of ammunition, an SMG rifle and magazine with rounds of ammunition, a pack of hard drugs (SK), charms, juju drums, and chakra musical instruments for shrines are among the items police authorities claim were taken from the thugs.

In order to find those still at large, Olayele pleaded with the public to report anyone with gunshot wounds or a strange demeanor.
